Night of 1000 Mrs. Ropers!

Review and photos by Rose Riot Photography

A rainy yet unseasonably balmy night was much appreciated by the many who headed to Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room and Ping Pong Emporium dressed in thin, fancy, and flowing housecoats. The occasion for the outing was a party called “Night of 1000 Mrs. Roper’s” imagineered by Akiko Jones who performs burlesques, mainly with Syrens of the South, as Ruby Redmayne. Akiko came up with this idea as an inside joke with her creative, flamboyant friends.

The participants of the party were asked to pay homage to the misunderstood and under-sexed Mrs. Roper from the ‘70s hit sitcom “Three’s Company” by wearing a caftan, aka the “moo moo.” If wearing yard upon yard of trippy patterned flowing synthetics wasn’t a guest’s thing, there was the option to go Mr. Furley style. A few Furleys did show up as well as a Crissy Snow and a Bea Arthur, but it was mostly all Roper. A popular look, and my personal favorite, was caftan, wig, jewelry and a big ol’ beard.

It is Akiko’s hope and desire that faux cast member can all unite to become a full-on social club with many fun field trips planned. I can hardly wait for the next Mrs. Roper event; I’ll be the one bringing macramé and fondue!
