The White Reindeer at The Plaza 1-14-12

Last Friday was a day for the superstitious to stay home. It was Friday the 13th but it was my intense fear of the cold — and not black cats — that kept me indoors. I had planned to go shoot the hours-long line of people waiting to get “13″  tattooed on them at 13 Roses, and maybe even a 13-in-action, but I was a thin-blooded wimp and chose to stay inside under warm blankets.

Saturday the 14th was much more to my liking and required me to wear nothing more than a medium weight jacket (welcome to Georgia). Feeling a need for redemption, I ventured out to do a really cool shoot with Shane Morton and then on to The Plaza Theater to shoot the crowd gathered to see the screening of “The White Reindeer.”

The Mythic Imagination Institute partnered with the Scandinavian-American Foundation graciously bestowed a copy of “The White Reindeer,” a Finnish art/horror film that has tones of fairy tale. It is a rare and beautiful film that won awards at Cannes and The Golden Globes in 1952.

The Plaza Theater was filled with an impressive number of film goers who were treated to the MCing of Professor Morte aka Shane Morton. Morte impressed the audience (as he always does) with his vast knowledge of “The White Reindeer” and all things horror. Morte also conducted a trivia contest in which the prizes were day passes to the Days of the Dead horror fest scheduled for March.
