Approximately three years ago, I stumbled upon a gem of a band called The Greater Vavoom. I was completely taken by the superfly style and sound of the band fronted by Chris Cox. When I wrote the preview for The Greater Vavoom show at The Ten High on July 18, I described Mr. Cox as “James Brown on acid.” While watching a performance I best describe as righteous, I decided on a better description that would go like this: Chris Cox appears to have been born in a disco then slapped on the ass by James Brown, and kissed on the lips by Prince upon his arrival to this Earth.
The Greater Vavoom is like no other local band I am aware of, and has a groove that is infectious. If you wanna dance, if you wanna get funky then get what your mama gave you to the next Greater Vavoom show. Keeps your eyes opened for show dates coming soon.
