Every once in a while stumbling upon a new song leads to a long-term relationship with a new artist. Allow “Eyes” to draw your attention to Rural Ghosts, a three-piece out of of Portland led by Erik Neilson’s melodically-haunted tracks. An EP was released in March of this year, and “Eyes” is the latest single, released in August.
The vocals come in softly like a child creeping around the house in the early morning hours. The first notes to attract attention come from Devon Colella’s cello. For me, cello signals earthy and moody music that stirs the soul. Neilson’s vocals dance alongside the rhythm of Robert Mitchell.
Fans of experimental, synth and melody should head over to Rural Ghosts’ Bandcamp page to hear the song and check out the EP.
