Live Review: Metric

Metric puts on a hell of a spectacular performance with a stunning light show… to what seems like an aerobic performance of high energy.

Half Moon Run made their Atlanta debut at the Tabernacle on Monday, October 1 with an intimate performance where a swelling fan base was found amongst the crowd. Half Moon Run performed songs that touched the crowd with deeply personal lyrics and luscious melodies that reverberated within the venue. Pulsating percussion beats and harmonizing lyrics brought roaring cheers from the crowd as the amalgamation of folk, indie and electronica elements culminated together to create the soundscape of Half Moon Run’s resonance. “I love this part of the night because you can’t play a synthesizer around the camp fire,” declared Emily Haines before going into “Gimme Sympathy.”

Metric puts on a hell of a spectacular performance with a stunning light show as Emilie Haines danced around in between performing the synthesizer or guitar to what seems like an aerobic performance of high energy. Haines was dynamic and awe-inspiring to watch as she belted out songs like “Artificial Nocturne,” “Youth Without Youth,” “Speed the Collapse,” “Dreams So Real,” “Empty,” “Help, I’m Alive,” “Synthetica,” “Clone,” “Breathing Underwater,” “Sick Muse,” and “Dead Disco.” She ended the regular set with “Stadium Love” before coming back out on stage for the encore with “Black Sheep,” “Monster Hospital,” “Gold Gun Girls,” and ending the night with an acoustic performance of “Gimme Sympathy.”

Watching Metric up on stage you could really tell that they love performing and are humbled by the crowd’s energy and love; not just for them, but the reverence of music as well. Haines talked about what a treasure it was to be able to perform in older venues, like the Tabernacle, because a lot of them have shut down.
